Hey friends! 💖 Have you ever just needed to completely hit the reset button on how you're taking care of yourself? That’s where my everything shower comes in. It’s my ultimate self-care ritual when I want to give my body and mind a little extra love. And trust me, by the end of it, I feel like a brand-new person—smooth skin, moisturized skin and hair, and all-around cleanliness. So, I thought I’d share my personal step-by-step process with you.
Let me take you through exactly what I do in my everything shower, and maybe it’ll inspire you to create your own luxurious routine.
Step 1: Getting Prepared for Total Relaxation
I’m all about starting off strong by making sure I’ve got everything ready. I hate to realize I need a new bar of soap when I’ve already started soaping up my hair. Before I even think about stepping into the shower, I do a quick check—new razor head? Check. Soap not dwindling to a tiny sliver? Check. I gather everything so I don’t have to hop out mid-shower. It’s such a small step, but it really sets the tone for a smooth and uninterrupted shower.
Step 2: Dry Brushing for That Healthy Glow
Before I turn on the water, I grab my dry brush. I’ve found that dry brushing before I shower not only exfoliates my skin but also helps with circulation, giving me that extra glow. I always brush in upward strokes toward my heart—it's something I've read about and really works!
Step 3: Brushing Out My Hair
Next, I give my hair a good brush. Starting from the ends and working my way up really helps prevent breakage. It’s best to brush before because wet hair is at its weakest state and is more prone to breakage than dry hair. Ever since Tangle Teezer came out I’ve not used another! I even turned my dad onto the hairbrush.
Step 4: Time for a Tea Tree Oil Shampoo
When I do an everything shower, the first thing I do is cleanse my scalp with tea tree oil shampoo. I’ve found it to be great for keeping my scalp healthy and dandruff free. I make sure to massage it all the way through, especially underneath where the buildup can hide.
I’m on my 3rd bottle of Maple Holistics Tea Tree Clarifying Shampoo, it’s amazing I swear.
Step 5: A Second Shampoo for That Amazing Scent
Once I’ve clarified, I go in with a second shampoo—this one is about targeting wants and needs, ie. scent, moisture level and benefits such as lengthening, thickening, etc. I’ve been a fan on L’Oreal Paris’ Elvive line, I will try something different but always seem to come back.
Step 6: Deep Conditioning for Silky Hair
I slather on a deep conditioner, focusing on my ends when doing an everything shower. Then, I clip my hair up and let the conditioner work its magic while I move on to the rest of my routine. This step is a game changer for me—especially when I want my hair to feel extra soft and nourished. When I wash my hair on a normal day I will alternate between the L’Oreal conditioner linked above and a deep conditioner.
Step 7: A Quick Wash with Bar Soap
While my hair is conditioning, I wash my face and body with a gentle bar soap. I’ve always found that starting with something simple and effective helps prep my skin for what’s next. Remember what I said before? I’m a diehard Dove bar person. I’ve also read that Dove is safe for those intimate places, unlike most detergents with strong scents and harsh chemicals that may not be safe for such sensitive areas, (don’t get confused, I mean outside not inside, to be clear).
Step 8: Time to Exfoliate
After that, I reach for my body wash and exfoliating cloth. I love giving my skin an extra scrub to get rid of any dead skin cells. This second wash is for exfoliating! But don’t forget to pick a yummy scent.
Step 9: Double-Cleansing My Face
I never skip this step—cleansing my face with my favorite face wash. I always make sure to give attention to those often-forgotten spots, like behind my ears, my neck, and my chest. It leaves me feeling completely clean.
Step 10: Shaving Time
Once my skin is exfoliated and ready, I go ahead and shave my legs and underarms.
Step 11: Cold Water Rinse for My Hair
I finish up my hair care by rinsing out my deep conditioner with cold water. It’s a little chilly, but I swear it helps lock in moisture and adds so much shine to my hair. Cold water is also great for your immune system, and after all that work to do everything an everything shower requires gets me a little winded and the cold water brings a little more life back into my veins.
Step 12: Wring Out and Clip Up Again
After rinsing my hair, I wring it out and clip it back up. This way, I can keep it out of the way while I finish the rest of my routine.
Step 13: Final Rinse for My Body
I give my entire body one last rinse with hot water, making sure to wash off any remaining soap or products. It’s the last step before I get ready to moisturize and pamper my skin.
Step 14: Quick Tub Rinse
Before I step out, I rinse off the tub walls and curtain. It’s a small habit, but it keeps everything clean and ready for the next shower.
Step 15: Wet Skin Lotion for All-Day Hydration
While my skin is still damp, I apply a wet skin lotion. I find that it helps lock in so much moisture, leaving my skin hydrated and soft all day long.
Step 16: Hair Care Continues
Once I’m out of the shower, I comb my hair with a wide-tooth comb, scrunch it in a towel, and then wrap it up. This gives my curls some love while I continue my post-shower routine.
Step 17: Cream Deodorant for Freshness
Next, I apply a cream deodorant. It’s so much gentler on my skin after shaving, and it keeps me feeling fresh for the night. I work in a restaurant so I need to use the more heavy duty antiperspirants during the day.
Step 18: Toweling Off & Moisturizing
After patting my body dry with a towel, I apply body oil for extra moisture. I love layering it with a rich body butter for deep hydration, especially after exfoliating and shaving.
I’m obsessed with the Sol de janeiro Caramel Pistachio scent. I love using their Firmeza Body Oil followed by the Bum Bum Cream.
Step 19: Feet & Fuzzy Socks
I give my feet some love by slathering on a thick foot cream, then I put on my favorite fuzzy socks. It’s such a cozy way to end my shower routine and keep my feet soft, clean and protected.
Step 20: Wrapping Up in a Fluffy Bathrobe
I can’t forget the final touch—my fluffy bathrobe. It’s like a warm hug after pampering myself for the past hour.
Step 21: Some Finishing Touches
Before I’m done, I wash my hands (there’s usually a lot of product build up by now), floss, brush my teeth, and follow up with my skincare routine. A little hand lotion and lip balm complete the deal, and I’m good to go! After some time letting my hair dry in a towel, I take it down, apply leave-in conditioner, curl gel and hair oil using the praying hands 🙏 method. Then, I scrunch, scrunch, scrunch!
(My holy grail curl products: include PATTERN Beauty by Tracee Ellis Ross Leave-In Conditioner and Curl Gel for Curlies, Coilies and TIght Textures; Been on the Moroccanoil train for over a decade. I have fine hair so I use the “light” version.
Step 22: Plopping for Defined Curls
One of my favorite tricks is “plopping” my curls. I use a cotton t-shirt or a bonnet to keep my curls bouncy and defined. It’s seriously one of the best ways to style curls without heat damage, plus it keeps your hair up and off of my neck while I sleep.
Step 23: Slip Into Comfy PJs
Finally, I slip into the coziest cotton PJ set I have that’s clean. After pampering myself from head to toe, I want nothing but softness and comfort for the rest of the night. Bonus points if I can slip into some freshly laundered sheets.
Target has some very cute pj sets I adore.
And there you have it—my everything shower routine from start to finish! It’s my go-to when I need to recharge, feel fabulous, and give my skin and hair some extra love. I hope this inspires you to create your own version and take some time for yourself. You deserve it! 💖
